Venus in Fur

Drama96 min

Alone in a Paris theatre after a day of failed auditions, writer-director Thomas (Mathieu Amalric) is ready to give up on casting the lead in his new play when Vanda, an abrasive late arrival, barges in asking for a chance to read. Emmanuelle Seigner's Vanda first seems scattered and unprepared, then begins slipping with unnerving ease into the role of a woman who agrees to dominate her male lover. As the audition stretches on, the line between Thomas's script, the power struggle in the room, and the private games taking shape onstage starts to blur in Roman Polanski's French-language chamber drama.
