Backstage at The Feebles Variety Hour, Heidi the Hippo (Donna Akersten) discovers that Bletch the Walrus, her co-star and lover, is cheating on her just as the troupe hurtles toward a major show. Peter Jackson turns the puppet revue into an adult musical farce packed with backstage feuds, drug addiction, extortion, robbery and revenge. Stuart Devenie’s Bletch sits at the center of the mess while the rest of the animal cast stumbles through porn shoots, disease scares and Vietnam flashbacks. What starts as a showbiz setup keeps widening into a foulmouthed, chaotic portrait of a stage company coming apart behind the curtain.
