Ruggles of Red Gap
ComedyDramaMysteryRomanceWestern90 min
A proper English butler is wagered away in a poker game and hauled to Red Gap by a rowdy American cattle baron, where the rules Marmaduke Ruggles has lived by stop making much sense. Charles Laughton is Ruggles, an Earl’s gentleman’s gentleman suddenly dropped into a louder, rougher world; Roland Young’s aristocrat is the employer who loses him at the card table. In his new surroundings, Ruggles is passed off as a colonel, turns into a local curiosity, and begins to imagine a life beyond service, with romance and small-town reinvention mixed in with the saloons, manners, and class comedy.
