In rural Japan, a baby's death in a wooded valley leads to Satomi's arrest, and the investigation quickly spreads to the people living around her. Police learn she's involved with her next-door neighbor Ozaki, while Kanako tells them her own husband may have a connection to the case, pushing a reporter to start asking questions of his own. Yôko Maki and Arata Iura sit at the center of a web of neighbors, lovers, and suspects, with the quiet countryside and close-packed homes keeping everyone uncomfortably close to the murder and to one another.
