The Great Escape

ActionAdventureDramaThrillerWar173 min

After repeated escape attempts embarrass their captors, Allied POWs are transferred to a high-security camp in wartime Germany and respond by planning an even larger breakout. Steve McQueen and James Garner are among the prisoners dividing the work between tunneling, forged papers, surveillance, and timing, all under the eyes of guards who consider the place escape-proof. Drawn from a true World War II story, the film follows the routines and pressures of camp life — barbed wire, cramped barracks, solitary confinement — as a sprawling operation takes shape behind the wire.
