After her mother falls ill, 12-year-old Akari brings home a puppy with white paws and names him Socks. Mayuko Fukuda is Akari in those early years, when girl and dog are rarely apart; Rena Tanaka takes over as the adult Akari, whose widening world slowly pulls her away from the pet she grew up with. Etsushi Toyokawa is Akari's father, part of the home Socks remains tied to after Akari leaves for another city. As the years pass and the distance between them grows, Akari is drawn back to the ten promises she once made to her dog.
