Takako works in a department store’s food section and keeps visiting a respected neighborhood Chinese restaurant, trying to convince its owner to open a branch inside the store. Miki Nakatani is Takako, whose persistence gets nowhere with Wang Qingkuo, a Shanghai-born chef who cooks every dish himself; Wen Jiang’s Wang is worn down by the workload and in no mood to expand. After he collapses and is left partially paralyzed, Takako quits her job and becomes his apprentice. In the restaurant’s cramped kitchen, instruction, routine, and friction begin to define their connection.
