In war-torn feudal Japan, two bickering peasants agree to guide a man and woman across enemy territory for the promise of gold. They think they have found a lucky way out of their own misery, but their traveling companions are hiding far more than money. The man is a battle-hardened general, and the woman is a princess who must be moved safely through hostile territory before rival forces close in. As the group slips past patrols, changes disguises, and weighs every risk against survival, greed keeps colliding with duty. Toshiro Mifune anchors the journey as General Rokurōta, with Misa Uehara as Princess Yuki.
