Divorce Italian Style
ComedyCrimeDramaRomance105 min
Baron Ferdinando Cefalù, a Sicilian aristocrat, wants to leave his wife and marry his young cousin Angela, but in 1960s Italy divorce is illegal. Marcello Mastroianni is Ferdinando, channeling his vanity into a calculating plan: if Rosalia can be caught in an affair, he can kill her and expect leniency under the era’s “honor” laws. With Daniela Rocca as his devoted, increasingly inconvenient wife and Angela (Stefania Sandrelli) as the cousin he fixates on, the film follows Ferdinando’s efforts to engineer scandal inside a household and social world built on gossip, appearances, and male privilege.
