A courtesan from 1930s Hong Kong returns as a ghost 50 years later, still searching for the aristocratic lover who vowed to die with her. Anita Mui is Fleur, and Leslie Cheung’s Twelfth Master is the wealthy heir who met her in the city’s teahouses and entered a fatal pact. In contemporary Hong Kong, Fleur’s search draws a young couple into a romance suspended between the elegance of the old city and the lives that moved on without her. Opulent period detail and a supernatural thread run through a story shaped by class, memory and a love that refuses to stay in the past.
