Martha Marcy May Marlene
DramaMysteryThriller102 min
Martha escapes an abusive cult and calls her estranged sister, Lucy, for help. Elizabeth Olsen is Martha, trying to settle into the quiet Connecticut home Lucy shares with her new husband, Ted, while intrusive memories of the commune keep breaking into the present. Sarah Paulson's Lucy wants to help, but Martha's shifting stories, frayed sense of identity, and rising paranoia make that refuge feel unstable. In the flashbacks, John Hawkes is the cult's manipulative leader, a looming presence in the life Martha is trying to leave behind. Sean Durkin's film cuts between uneasy domestic space and the group she fled, keeping both close at hand.
