A terrible accident in New Mexico binds together three strangers whose lives are already fraying in different ways. Sean Penn is Paul Rivers, an ailing mathematician stuck in a loveless marriage; Naomi Watts’s Christina Peck is a suburban mother whose family is torn apart overnight. As the aftermath unfolds, their paths cross with Jack Jordan, a born-again ex-con trying to hold fast to his faith. Alejandro G. Iñárritu tells the story out of order, cutting between moments before and after the crash as guilt, loss, and the pull of revenge reshape each life.
