I Can Only Imagine

DramaFamily110 min

John Michael Finley is Bart Millard, growing up in Greenville, Texas under the shadow of his abusive father, Arthur (Dennis Quaid). After a football injury pushes Bart toward music, he leaves home, joins the Christian band MercyMe, and carries the damage of that relationship into adulthood. As Arthur’s health declines, father and son get a chance to confront the past, and the film traces how that fractured bond eventually fed the writing of MercyMe’s signature song, “I Can Only Imagine.” Madeline Carroll is Shannon, Bart’s childhood sweetheart, in a story drawn from the life behind the hit.
