The Lusty Men

ActionAdventureDramaWestern113 min

Retired rodeo champion Jeff McCloud drifts back into the circuit when he agrees to train ranch hand Wes Merritt (Arthur Kennedy), a novice rider drawn to the prize money and danger of the arena. Robert Mitchum is Jeff, battered by old injuries and still pulled toward the life he left behind; Susan Hayward is Wes's wife, who wants no part of a sport built on broken bones and uncertain paydays. Moving through rodeo grounds, trailers, and ranch work in the postwar West, the film centers on the hard bargain of trying to make a living in the ring and the tension Jeff brings into the Merritts' home.
