The Long Excuse
Drama124 min
After his wife dies in a bus crash, a recently widowed writer finds himself unsettled less by grief than by its absence. Masahiro Motoki is the husband at the center, pulled into the daily routines of another man who lost his wife in the same accident. That second widower, a working father (Pistol Takehara), is suddenly left to care for his children alone, and the writer’s involvement with the family forces him to confront what he feels, what he avoids, and what remains after a shared loss. Quiet domestic details shape this Japanese drama’s portrait of mourning and responsibility.
