The End of Summer

The story

An aging sake brewer throws his household off balance when his family discovers he’s been visiting a woman from his past, raising fresh worries about his health and the future of the business. Ganjiro Nakamura is the brewery owner at the center of the turmoil, while Setsuko Hara and Yoko Tsukasa are among the family members forced to reckon with his secrecy, their finances, and one another. What begins as an embarrassing revelation widens into a portrait of family negotiation, where everyday rituals, old loyalties, and late-life restlessness keep shifting the tone between rueful comedy and quiet strain.
