Their work turns the operating theatre and consulting room into a battleground of ego, bad ideas, and half-tested science. As they chase prestige, patients, and breakthroughs, each attempt at progress runs into public squeamishness, professional rivalry, and the fact that 19th-century medicine is often closer to butchery than cure. The series turns real medical fashions and failures into farce.
