Escape from Alcatraz

CrimeDramaThriller113 min

Frank Morris is a new arrival at Alcatraz, the island prison in San Francisco Bay where escape is supposed to be impossible. Clint Eastwood's Morris keeps to himself, studies the routines, and gradually draws a few fellow inmates into a careful plan, all under the eye of Patrick McGoohan's hardline warden. Based on the case behind the 1962 Alcatraz escape attempt, the film stays close to the daily pressures of the cellblock: searches, punishments, surveillance, and the slow work of turning small advantages into a chance at getting off the rock.
