Seeking solitude in the Australian outback, Robyn Davidson (Mia Wasikowska) leaves Alice Springs with her dog and four camels, aiming to cross the desert to the Indian Ocean alone. Based on Davidson’s true story, the film follows a trek shaped by heat, distance, and the daily demands of the land. As Robyn tries to keep the trip on her own terms, Adam Driver’s National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan enters the picture, documenting an undertaking that is both fiercely private and impossible to separate from the attention it attracts.
