Wasao

ComedyDramaFamily117 min

A shaggy stray Akita wanders into a fishing village in Aomori, where grilled-squid shop owner Setsuko decides to feed him, shelter him and give him a name: Wasao. Hiroko Yakushimaru is Setsuko, whose patience meets a dog that doesn’t immediately return her affection, while Kai Inowaki’s Akira is the local boy Wasao begins to trust. Inspired by the true story behind a famously “ugly-cute” dog, the film follows Wasao’s early life among village streets, the foothills of the Shirakami mountains and the small community that slowly makes room for him.
