The Traffic Policeman

Comedy104 min

An unemployed man lands a job as a traffic policeman in a crowded Italian city, only to discover that the uniform brings him less authority than trouble. Alberto Sordi is the flustered officer, trying to keep order amid jammed streets, impatient drivers, and the pressure that comes when the rules apply differently to ordinary people and the well-connected. Vittorio De Sica appears in the orbit of that imbalance, as the job keeps turning simple traffic duty into a clash with status and influence. The comedy builds from whistles, intersections, and small abuses of power into a pointed look at public life.
