Cops and Robbers

ComedyDrama105 min

In postwar Italy, a small-time swindler lives by quick schemes and close calls until one of his tricks brings the police down on him. As he tries to stay one step ahead, a determined officer keeps pursuing him through streets, markets, and cramped neighborhoods, turning the chase into a running battle of wits. Each encounter pushes the crook to improvise another escape, but the pressure keeps mounting as the law closes in and his hustler's routines start to unravel. Totò anchors the film as a man who is both comic nuisance and desperate survivor, with the pursuit revealing as much about daily hardship as it does about crime.
