After a chance flirtation in a San Francisco pet shop, wealthy socialite Melanie Daniels follows lawyer Mitch Brenner to Bodega Bay with a pair of lovebirds and finds herself pulled into his uneasy family circle. Tippi Hedren is Melanie, whose teasing visit turns complicated once she meets Rod Taylor’s Mitch, his wary mother Lydia (Jessica Tandy), and the local schoolteacher Annie (Suzanne Pleshette). Then gulls, crows, and sparrows begin attacking without warning, and Alfred Hitchcock lets the small California town fill with a threat no one can explain and no one can predict.
