The Runaways
Drama106 min
In 1970s Southern California, rebellious teenagers Joan Jett and Cherie Currie are swept into the formation of The Runaways, a girl band pushing into the hard-rock scene. Kristen Stewart is Joan, the band's guitar-driven center, while Dakota Fanning's Cherie is thrust to the front as its striking lead singer. Overseeing their rise is Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), a hustling impresario who spots their raw talent and quickly turns it into a marketable image. As club gigs give way to recording sessions, photo shoots, and sudden notoriety, the film tracks the friendship and strain at the heart of the band's early climb.
