What's Love Got to Do with It
DramaRomance118 min
Anna Mae Bullock grows from a Tennessee church singer into Tina Turner, a rising star whose partnership with bandleader Ike Turner turns both lucrative and brutal. Angela Bassett is Tina, following her move to St. Louis, her first break in the recording world, and the stage persona that makes her famous. Opposite her, Laurence Fishburne's Ike is charismatic, controlling, and increasingly violent as the duo climb the charts through the 1960s and 1970s. The film follows Tina's push to build a career and find a way out of the marriage that threatens to define it.
