Down to Earth
Drama110 min
Inês de Medeiros is Mariana, a nurse from Lisbon who accompanies Leão (Isaach de Bankolé), an immigrant worker left in a coma after an accident, on the trip back to his home in Cape Verde. What begins as an act of care turns stranger once they arrive on the islands: Leão goes largely unrecognized, and Mariana finds herself moving through an unfamiliar community, cut off from home and drawn into its silences and rituals. Against the landscape of Cape Verde, a former Portuguese colony, the film follows her growing dislocation as duty gives way to uncertainty.
