The Age of the Earth

DocumentaryDramaFantasyMusicalSci-FiWar152 min

Late-1970s Brazil comes into view through four figures modeled on Christ: a Black man, a soldier, an Indigenous man, and a guerrilla fighter, each set against the greed and “civilizing” violence of the foreign exploiter John Brahms. Maurício do Valle and Jece Valadão are among the faces moving through this charged, allegorical portrait of a country’s political and cultural upheaval. Drawing inspiration from a poem by Castro Alves, the film blends history, fantasy, music, and prophecy as it refracts Brazil’s conflicts through religion, power, and anti-colonial struggle.
