Hsiao Si'r is a middle-class teenager coming of age in early-1960s Taiwan, where school discipline, family pressure, first love, and neighborhood loyalties start to pull him in different directions. Chang Chen is Si'r, a quiet boy who drifts toward the orbit of youth gangs as friendships harden into rivalries. Around him, crowded homes, night classes, rock-and-roll, and political unease shape daily life, while small injustices and teenage slights begin to carry heavier consequences. The film follows Si'r through the fragile border between ordinary adolescence and juvenile delinquency.
