Leslie Cheung is Yuddy, a 1960 Hong Kong playboy whose casual romances take on a different cast after he learns the woman who raised him isn’t his mother. As he goes looking for answers and some sense of where he belongs, the story widens to the women and men caught in his wake, with Maggie Cheung and Andy Lau among the ensemble. Directed by Wong Kar-Wai, the film moves from cramped city rooms to the Philippines, following Yuddy through broken attachments, chance encounters, and long stretches of waiting.
