The Joy Luck Club

Drama139 min

In San Francisco, four Chinese immigrant mothers gather to play mahjong and revisit the lives they left behind, while their American-born daughters try to make sense of the histories shaping their families. Kieu Chinh and Tsai Chin are among the women at the center of the ensemble, with the film moving through linked flashbacks in China and the United States. As past marriages, separations, and long-held silences come into view, the story follows the tensions and connections between mothers and daughters, and the ways memory, migration, and cultural expectation carry across generations.
