Over the course of one evening in an Italian restaurant, hostess Flora welcomes a steady stream of diners: couples, families, tourists, regulars, the young and the old, each bringing celebrations, arguments, flirtations, and confessions to the table. Vittorio Gassman and Fanny Ardant are among the faces moving through the room as conversations overlap, other people’s business gets overheard, and separate stories start brushing against each other. The film stays with the small shifts of a night out — interrupted meals, uneasy toasts, songs, gossip, and chance encounters — as private tensions spill into a shared public space.
