The Painted Veil
DramaRomance125 min
In 1920s China, British doctor Walter Fane brings his wife, Kitty, to a remote village hit by cholera after their hurried marriage curdles and her affair is exposed. Edward Norton is Walter, a reserved bacteriologist more comfortable with work than with intimacy, while Naomi Watts’s Kitty arrives from Shanghai’s expat world angry, isolated, and out of place. As Walter throws himself into the outbreak, the couple are forced into close quarters among nuns, local officials, and the daily strain of a spreading epidemic.
