In 1962 Hong Kong, two new neighbors begin crossing paths after each suspects that their absent spouse is involved with the other's partner. Maggie Cheung is Su Li-zhen; opposite her, Tony Leung Chiu-wai's Chow Mo-wan meets her in hallways, noodle shops, and rented rooms as their formal, polite encounters deepen into a private bond. Directed by Wong Kar-Wai, the film keeps close to gestures, repetition, and the rhythms of daily life, turning shared meals and brief conversations into the language of a relationship neither of them fully names.
