Marketa Lazarová

DramaRomance166 min

In 13th-century Central Europe, a feud between rival clans widens after robber brothers Mikolás and Adam seize a young German noble hostage and draw the king's wrath. František Velecký's Mikolás is sent to pressure the neighboring lord Lazar into an alliance; when talks fail, he abducts Lazar's daughter Marketa on the eve of her initiation as a nun. Magda Vášáryová is Marketa, caught between her father's household, the raiders' world, and a landscape where Christianity is overtaking older pagan customs. Winter forests, raids, and shifting loyalties shape the story's medieval world.
