A Man for All Seasons

Drama120 min

In 16th-century England, Sir Thomas More is the king’s trusted Lord Chancellor until conscience puts him at odds with the crown. Paul Scofield is More, a devout Catholic who refuses to swear the Oath of Supremacy naming Henry VIII head of the Church in England, even as the king seeks support for his break with Rome. Robert Shaw’s Henry is forceful and increasingly impatient, and the conflict moves from private counsel to public pressure as allies, rivals, and family are drawn into the dispute. Fred Zinnemann’s film centers on principle, power, and the consequences of refusing to yield.
