Dick Van Dyke is Professor Potts, an inventor who restores a broken-down car and discovers it can fly. With Jemima, Jeremy, and Sally Ann Howes's Truly Scrumptious aboard, the trip turns into a chase when a foreign ruler (Gert Fröbe) decides he has to own the machine. Songs and comic detours carry the adventure from the English countryside to a far-off kingdom where children are being rounded up and Chitty becomes both escape route and coveted prize.
