DramaFamilyMusicalRomance175 min
At an Austrian abbey on the eve of World War II, Julie Andrews is Maria, a lively young postulant sent to work as governess for a widowed naval captain’s seven children. In the von Trapp household outside Salzburg, Christopher Plummer’s Captain Georg runs the home with military precision, while Maria meets the children with songs, play, and a stubborn warmth that begins to change the family. As affection grows inside the house, the wider world darkens with the approach of Nazi rule.
