The Cremator

ComedyCrimeDramaHorrorMysteryThriller101 min

In 1930s Prague, crematorium manager Karel Kopfrkingl treats death as a form of mercy, a belief that leaves him dangerously open to Nazi ideology. Rudolf Hrušínský is Kopfrkingl, a tidy family man whose calm manners and fixation on suffering grow steadily more unnerving as politics close in around him. With Vlasta Chramostová among the people in his orbit, the film places domestic routine beside a spreading moral collapse. The imagery keeps slipping out of balance through distorted lenses, abrupt cuts, and black comedy that turns the crematorium itself into a deeply unsettling world.
