Germany Year Zero

DramaWar78 min

In the ruins of postwar Berlin, 12-year-old Edmund is left to fend for himself as he tries to help keep his family afloat. Edmund Moeschke is the boy at the film’s center, moving through bombed-out buildings, street markets, and a city where food and work are scarce. Drawn into petty schemes with other teenagers and the orbit of a former teacher with Nazi sympathies, Edmund becomes the lens for Roberto Rossellini’s portrait of Allied-occupied Germany and the damage left behind after the war.
