In an alternate America where the Axis won World War II, the country is split between Nazi rule in the East and Japanese control in the West, with a tense neutral zone in between. Ordinary lives are shaped by occupation, surveillance, and fear, until a forbidden newsreel begins circulating that appears to show a different outcome to the war. Juliana Crain comes into possession of one of the films and is pulled toward the resistance, while trade minister Nobusuke Tagomi sees political pressures harden into something far more dangerous. As rival empires maneuver for control, the mystery behind the films turns private choices into acts that could shift the balance of the world.
