In a future where humanity has spread across the Solar System, Earth, Mars, and the Belt sit in a tense balance that could break at any moment. A missing young woman pulls cynical detective Josephus Miller into a case that reaches far beyond one disappearance. At the same time, ship’s officer James Holden and his crew survive a deadly encounter and become entangled in a cover-up that points to something much larger. As politicians maneuver, ships mobilize, and suspicion hardens into crisis, separate lives begin to converge around a conspiracy that could ignite war. Then the appearance of alien technology turns a human power struggle into something far more dangerous.
