Where the Sidewalk Ends

CrimeDramaThriller95 min

Dana Andrews is Detective Dixon, a New York cop whose violent temper keeps pushing him past the line. While working a murder investigation, a brutal interrogation leaves a small-time gambler dead, and Dixon’s attempt to cover it up sends suspicion toward an innocent cab driver. Gene Tierney’s Morgan Taylor, the cabbie’s daughter, enters the picture just as Dixon is trying to redirect the case without exposing himself. Fellow detectives close in, racketeers hover at the edges, and the city’s bars, precinct rooms, and taxi stands all become part of the same tightening trap.
