After a drunk-driving arrest, young lawyer Gordon Bombay is sentenced to coach a youth hockey team for community service. Emilio Estevez is Gordon, a former player who wants nothing to do with the sport, while Joshua Jackson's Charlie Conway is one of the few kids with clear promise on a team that can barely skate together. Back at the rink, Gordon is pushed into tense contact with his old coach, Jack Reilly (Joss Ackland), whose hard-edged approach still hangs over him. As the Ducks improve, their season starts pointing toward a showdown with Reilly's polished squad.
