Take the Money and Run

ComedyCrime85 min

Woody Allen is Virgil Starkwell, a small-time crook who dreams of becoming a notorious bank robber and keeps wrecking his own rise with every robbery, arrest, and escape attempt. Framed as a deadpan mock documentary, the film follows Virgil through prison stints, bungled heists, and a marriage to Janet Margolin’s Louise, who stays in his corner as his schemes collapse. In Woody Allen’s 1969 comedy, crime is filtered through straight-faced interviews, fake newsreel flourishes, and a would-be outlaw whose confidence is much bigger than his talent.
