The Producers

Comedy89 min

Broadway producer Max Bialystock spots a loophole: if a show is certain to fail, he can oversell it to investors and keep the money. Zero Mostel is Max, hustling cash out of wealthy patrons, while Gene Wilder’s Leo Bloom is the timid accountant who helps turn the fraud into a plan. To guarantee a flop, they buy the worst script they can find and mount a tasteless musical called Springtime for Hitler. Mel Brooks sets the scam amid auditions, rehearsal-room panic, and showbiz vanity, with the pair trying to steer a Broadway production straight into disaster.
