Silent Movie
Comedy87 min
Mel Brooks is filmmaker Mel Funn, who talks a cash-strapped studio into backing a new silent movie and then scrambles to sign enough stars before the studio’s creditors shut him down. Alongside Marty Feldman’s Marty Eggs and Dom DeLuise’s Dom Bell, he tears through Hollywood chasing appearances from Burt Reynolds, Liza Minnelli, Paul Newman and other celebrity cameos. Brooks stages the whole film in the style of an old silent comedy, using intertitles, orchestral accompaniment and broad physical gags while turning the movie business itself into part of the joke.
