Lilies of the Field

ComedyDrama94 min

When his car overheats in the Arizona desert, Homer Smith (Sidney Poitier), an unemployed construction worker heading west, stops at a remote farm for water and gets drawn into the lives of a small convent of East European nuns. Their stern mother superior, Mother Maria Marthe, is Lilia Skala, and she’s certain Homer has been sent by God for one purpose: to build the chapel the sisters have long wanted. Homer sees a temporary job at most, while the nuns see a mission, and the standoff between his skepticism and their certainty shapes this spare desert story.
