Everybody Go Home!
ComedyDramaWar122 min
In wartime Italy, the country’s surrender to the Allies leaves army units scattered, command in disarray, and soldiers suddenly on their own as they try to make their way home. Alberto Sordi is among the servicemen caught in that collapse, moving through a country where military order gives way to confusion, shifting loyalties, and improvised survival. Serge Reggiani appears among the fellow soldiers swept up in the same upheaval, with Martin Balsam part of the wider mix of officers and civilians they encounter. The film threads comedy through the chaos of a national breakdown without losing sight of the uncertainty facing the men on the road.
