Picnic at Hanging Rock
DramaMystery117 min
In 1900 Australia, a Valentine’s Day outing from a girls’ boarding school turns into a disappearance when Miranda and several classmates slip away at Hanging Rock, a looming volcanic formation, and fail to return. Rachel Roberts is the school’s severe headmistress, trying to hold together a world of rules and ritual as alarm spreads; Helen Morse is among the adults caught in the fallout. Peter Weir frames the missing girls, the school, and the nearby community in a haze of heat, repression, and unease, with the rock itself hanging over the story as an unanswered question.
