After her boyfriend leaves her, model Sophie invents a new romance to make him jealous, turning a breakup into a tangle of rivalry, bluffing, and bad decisions. Brigitte Bardot is Sophie, headstrong and theatrical as she pushes the scheme further than anyone around her expects. A young bachelor (Michel Subor) gets drawn into her orbit as the pretend affair starts to take on a life of its own, while Joséphine James figures into the jealousy at the center of it. Made in France in the early 1960s, the film leans into flirtation, farce, and Sophie's increasingly chaotic attempts to get even.
